General wisdom says never pick a teacher who isn't able to do himself or herself what you want to learn. That was never going to be a concern with Daniel. His singing technique, knowledge, experience, and tone are just impeccable. He checks all the boxes of what a great singing teacher should be. One thing you'll immediately notice is his enthusiasm for your improvements. It feels like he teaches through the eyes of an excited kid. Every triumph you make is his triumph also. I've been a casual YouTube singing student for years, but really, there is no substitute for a competent singing teacher who can listen to the sounds you produce and pinpoint the steps needed for your voice to advance. It's a personal journey and I couldn't recommend anyone else more than Daniel to take it with.

Over the years I have taken vocal lessons from varies singing teachers but was never able to achieve a sense of security in the voice. I was still losing my voice, getting horse and losing confidence in my ability.

I found a few videos of Daniel Formica online singing his arse off and I started to watch his free online singing tutorials. I eventually bit the bullet and have been taking vocal lessons from him (Your Vocal Teacher) for a couple of month now. Best decision I ever made.

In such a short amount of time, my voice has grew leaps and bounds. My voice now feels secure, strong, supported and the confidence is soaring right back.

Being an audible learner, I can’t stress enough how vital it has been having Daniel be able to demonstrate what it is he wants me to do! It sounds stupid but you’ll be surprised how many of my previous teachers couldn’t actually do it themselves yet charge more money than him for a lesson….

I’m a Vocal Coach & Singer with 17 years of experience teaching and 20 years of experience studying voice under many of the biggest names in the Voice Coaching industry. So far I’ve had only eight lessons over a few months, and the improvement I’ve seen in my voice has left me floored. I come from a background of high rock/pop male singers, and even after 15+ years of study, I have never been able to sing any of those songs in the original key and sound good doing it. (Journey, Foreigner, Bruno Mars, Sting, The Script, Rascal Flatts, etc...)

Since I’ve started studying with Daniel, I’ve finally gained control over my notes above G4. I can now sing in a consistent and full voice from the bottom up, and it only keeps getting better every week (even when I’m singing sick).

I’m writing this review to say thank you to Daniel and to say he is absolutely the real deal. Not only does he talk the talk, but he also walks the walk (25+ years as a paid-performer singing high male vocals). For this reason, not only is he able to teach you how to do it, but he can also show you how at the drop of a hat. I’ve seen him consistently hit High C5’s up to E5’s during lessons without even warming up and also while being sick. As coach and teacher with many years experience, I know it’s hard to find a male coach so proficient and consistent with their instrument.

Daniel is focused, competent, caring, and funny too! To sum up, if you want to sing well, strong, high, consistent with freedom and expression, I strongly recommend studying with Daniel Formica.

I don’t know any singer in California that works as hard as Danny. Actually, I don’t know any singer that works as hard as Danny. If there’s a weak spot in himself, he hunts it down, and finds a way to kill it. As a performer, it’s the same. and it’s that kind of passion that makes him a great teacher. I’ve known Danny a long time. He’s one of my oldest, closet friends. And there’s a reason why. Most people phone it in. Danny doesn’t. He loves music too much.

From the first lesson with Daniel, he focused on the styles of music that I want to sing. I no longer need to translate lessons into real world singing. Within a month, my voice improved considerably. It required a lot of work on my part (5 to 6 days per week of consistent practice for at least 1/2 to 1 hour). What I noticed first was that my voice had changed; there were sounds coming out of my mouth that I’d never dreamed were possible. I now feel confident when singing in public that I don’t sound like an opera singer trying (unsuccessfully) to get in the groove. If you’ve every heard an opera singer trying to sing the blues, you’ll get the idea.

Daniel has taught me how to push into a note and cry feeling into a phrase. Taking care of my voice is part of instruction. I have a personalized short and long warm up with plenty of great exercises to keep the instrument in good form. I’d heard of breath control before, but, MAN, I didn’t realize that I was SO far from breath control. It is a major part of the singing apparatus that I was not using for its intended purpose. Also, I had a disconnect between my head voice and chest voice that made song choices very difficult. Now, it doesn’t really matter which song and I’m no longer limited to a narrow range of keys. I can sing it with strength throughout my range instead of always being light in the higher registers. Through Daniel’s instruction I’ve also discovered the best range for my voice; this is the area where it feels effortless and sounds resonant.

One thing you will have to get used to – Daniel is always learning and trying to improve his own voice. His energy is infectious! Lastly, I’ve never felt ashamed of what I was doing wrong during lessons, he would just redirect and help me to do it a different way.

If you want to improve your singing voice and are willing to put in the effort, you can’t go wrong with Daniel as a teacher.

I am a professional singer and have been working with Danny onstage for several years. Not only is he a blast to work with and a very dynamic and entertaining performer, he is a very talented, trained and knowledgeable singer and teacher. He has an undying thirst for knowledge about the voice and the way it works, and has sought out the best teachers to study with. Through all his study, he has combined all that he has learned and has evolved his own method which he puts into practice every day. I myself have studied with many teachers who have lots of knowledge and ‘technical’ information, but don’t put it into practice, so it only remains a theory. Danny lives it, breathes it. Danny Formica is amazing! Very down to earth and EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the voice and singing. I warm up to Danny’s practice CD he made for me every night on tour and my voice has continued to improve and become stronger as time goes on. Before going to Danny I would lose my voice after only a couple shows but not anymore. I would recommend Danny to people of all talent levels who want to sing better and strengthen their voice.

My band tours from LA to NY to AZ and back, in planes, trains and automobiles. I have a neurological condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia, which causes numerous vocal breaks when I speak and when I sing. I have had several voice instructors, but no one has ever been able to help me much. While important to every singer, Daniel’s work with me on sound ‘placement’ has been particularly beneficial. At each lesson, he develops exercises on the spot to specifically address problems I am having, rather than relying on a specific set of exercises. Daniel Formica is one of the best and most awesome vocal teachers I have ever had. Within a session, he already helped me clarify and comprehend tons of things I was so confused about for such a long time.

Hey Dan, just wanted to say thanks, for helping me get my voice into shape for this last band audition, while I didn’t get the gig…I beat out 50 guys and got to the final 2 vocalists, the material was very vocally challenging and I couldn’t have even imagined singing some of it, but your experience and technique worked… So now I sit and practice to Boston and Journey tunes till the next bad ass band comes along!
